Adaptations
Below are a list of lessons created while placed within an Elementary and Secondary school. These lessons provide adaptations for those with different abilities.
Elementary: Westwood Elementary and Miller African-Centered Academy
Secondary: Barack Obama Academy of International Studies 6-12 (IB World)
My students within this placement ranged from visually impaired to learning support. I adapted my lessons to theses students, specifically those with visual impairments. Due to their ability to see, I made sure each student sat at the front of the class, made large visuals that were easily readable, and had all handouts/posters available to the student in a larger font size. The following unit addresses these students using an asterisk.
During this placement, I was given the opportunity to work with 12 special needs students, ranging from Autistic Support to Life Skills, that were integrated into the regular classroom with other 10th Grade students. Based upon the student abilities I adapted and modified lessons that connected with the lesson being completed by the other 10th Grade students. This allowed the students to stay connected and included with the class. Below are weekly lesson plans with Modifications highlighted through italics.
